Electronetics offers a wide variety of line frequency power transformers for 50 Hz, 60 Hz and 400 Hz applications, and all power levels up to 100 KW single and three phase.
Line - Line Isolation
This transformer is typically either 60 Hz or 50 Hz running from a wall socket or from commercial AC. Isolation is commonly listed as a voltage rating for shock safety.
Important specifications for custom design: Operating frequency; total power output; input voltage range (maximum and minimum): output voltage(s); output voltages at specific input voltages and output loads.
Line - Line Autotransformer
Very similar to the line - line isolation transformer but without electrical isolation between the primary and secondary. Frequently used to slightly step-up or step-down voltage to allow for use of smaller core and coil; e.g., stepping up from 208 Volts to 240 Volts or stepping down from 240 Volts to 220 Volts.
Important specifications: Same as for the line - line isolation transformer above.
Audio Isolation
Often used to distribute an audio amplifier's output to multiple speakers.
Important specifications:
Maximum power output and frequency range - especially the minimum frequency: impedance of the primary - a typical way of indicating the ratio between the primary and secondary when the secondary is a standard 8 speaker; e.g., if the speaker is 8 and a 10:1 ratio is needed (10 Volts in gets 1 Volt out), the impedance of the primary would be (10÷1)2 x 8 or 800.
